Rep-tiling Euclidean space

چکیده

A rep-tiling ~is a self replicating, lattice tiling of R". Lattice tiling means a tiling by translates of a single compact tile by the points of a lattice, and self-replicating means that there is a non-singular linear map ¢: R"-o R" such that, for each T e J, the image 4~(T) is, in turn, tiled by Y-. This topic has recently come under investigation, not only because of its recreational appeal, but because of its application to the theory of wavelets and to computer addressing. The paper presents an exposition of some recent results on rep-tiling, including a construction of essentially all rep-tilings of Euclidean space. The construction is based on radix representation of points of a lattice. One particular radix representation, called the generalized balanced ternary, is singled out as an example because of its relevance to the field of computer vision.

Tiling Three-space by Combinatorially Equivalent Convex Polytopes

The paper settles a problem of Danzer, Griinbaum, and Shephard on tilings by convex polytopes. We prove that, for a given three-dimensional convex polytope P, there is a locally finite tiling of the Euclidean three-space by convex polytopes each combinatorially equivalent to P. An Application of Topological Multiple Recurrence to Tiling

We show that given any tiling of Euclidean space, any geometric patterns of points, we can find a patch of tiles (of arbitrarily large size) so that copies of this patch appear in the tiling nearly centered on a scaled and translated version of the pattern.
